Science - How do rocks change?

Today we had great fun making a range of rock types out of 'Maoam' sweets. First, we broke up our sweets into pieces, creating our starting point - rock sediments. We then built our sediment into a wall of layers and pressed down gently - making a sedimentary rock. We then placed it inside our sandwich bag and added lots of heat a pressure, changing the rock into metamorphic rock! We finally heated our rocks in the microwave, melting them into magma, before letting them cool into a very dark, crystalline igneous rock!
