Why are rainforests important to us?
What a fun lesson learning about how the rainforest is important to man and the Earth.
First the children recapped their previous learning about the names of the 4 layers of the rainforest; the names of the lines of latitude north and south of the Equator and the different hemispheres.
Moving on to watch a clip about why the rainforest is important to man. Did you know that the rainforest produces 20% of our oxygen and it absorbs carbon dioxide which reduces greenhouse gases. The rainforest has a rich diversity of plants and animals which can only live there due to the climate and conditions. Finally, the children looked at some trees and plants which are used to treat different medical conditions. If we didn’t have these, then the world would not have many of its medicines. They also identified what deforestation was and h ow many can help.
A fantastic lesson, 1 dojo given to each child. 😊
